Pocket Door Details

A pocket door opens and slides into a compartment on the side of the cabinet. Please note that when this cabinet is open, the door will protrude outside of the cabinet. Also, the door will be full overlay on the sides, but not at the top or bottom (if there is any bottom). You may want to add a molding at the top to make the front look flush with the doors.

How to Measure for Pocket Doors

You’ll need to measure the interior depth of your cabinet to select a slide “Size” that fits. “L” is representing the true length of the slide or the interior space that it needs. The “Door Conceal” shows how much the door will slide inside the box of the cabinet. We use the KV8092 slide.

Limits

We recommend designing your cabinet so the door does not stick out more than 8”. To accomplish this, you need to follow this formula, paying close attention to the depth and height of your cabinet.

Pocket Door Example
  • If the depth of your Pocket Door cabinet is 16”, your interior depth is 15” (15 - 0.75 -0.25).
  • This means that you need a Slide #14 (14.125” long).
  • If the width of your door is 16”, when open it will TRAVEL 10” from the front edge of your cabinet, allowing the door to protrude 6” (16-10).
